Sound Of The Week: Maude Vôs

Emerging LA-based electronic artist Maude Vôs unveils hypnotic new single ‘Evil Side of Love’ featuring Radioactive Dyke, out now on Delusional Records. A collaboration with Melbourne-based artist Radioactive Dyke, ‘Evil Side of Love’ offers an exciting glimpse of Maude Vôs’ upcoming EP Sapphic Streets & Marzipan Eats.

‘Evil Side of Love’ is an eclectic dance tune, with a pulsating melodic house groove built around an infectious bassline. Throbbing synths, emotive textures and an ethereal lead vocal give the track a trance-like feel, putting Maude Vôs’ flair for intricate sound design and mystical dance floor vibes on full display.

The ‘Evil Side of Love’ is not a typical cliché heartbreak song. This song intertwines moving through the painful emotions of a queer heartbreak, contrasted by the clarity and embodiment of choosing one’s self. The instrumental accompaniment mirrors the emotional lyrical journey with tense chords adjoining the fluttery synth melody and kinetic bass

Reflecting on their forthcoming EP, Maude Vôs explains “Sapphic Streets & Marzipan Eats is a sacred collection of emotions, reflections and queer collaborations. This EP ties together my lived experience as a queer person, club culture and my community.”

Breaking down each track in their own words, they add, “The lyrics of the first track, ‘Leave Your Body’ were written during the exploration of my own gender expansiveness. I asked my best friend and collaborator M-0ther to feature as the vocalist on this track. ‘The Evil Side of Love’ intertwines moving through the painful emotions of a queer heartbreak, contrasted by the clarity and embodiment of choosing one’s self. ‘You Can Be’ is an ode to numerous magical friendships and moments I have forged in queer club spaces over the years. The fourth track of this release ‘It’s Intention Baby’ delves into my desires, mindfulness and intentions when connecting and creating.”

“The journey of composing Sapphic Streets & Marzipan Eats has been one of depth, genesis and unity: not just within myself, but with my community. I’m hopeful that listeners feel seen in these songs and come together on dancefloors in celebration of queerness. ”
