Sound Of The Week: Night Tapes

Riding on the momentum of their highly praised releases and a riveting tour across Europe in 2023, the DIY dream pop outfit Night Tapes unveils their latest sonic creation, ‘loner’, available now under the Nettwerk Music Group banner.

The single ‘loner’ invites audiences into the gossamer realms of Night Tapes’ music, where the listeners find themselves wrapped in celestial sonic layers. Anchored by smooth basslines, arresting minor chords, and the precise beats of the rhythm section, the track features the velvet-laced voice of lead vocalist Iiris Vesik. Her voice, tinged with mysterious reverb, carries hauntingly beautiful melodies that linger long after the song ends.

Fresh off their productive year in 2023, which saw them drop their third EP ‘Perfect Kindness’ and embark on a UK and European tour with stops in cities like Vienna, London, Bristol, Brighton, Manchester, Copenhagen, Paris, and Tallinn, the trio is bracing for yet another landmark year.

Night Tapes was born from casual evening sessions amongst flatmates Max Doohan, Sam Richards, and Iiris Vesik in London, evolving into an exploration of genre-crossing sounds produced in a spectrum of fidelities. Their atmospheric tunes, steeped in nocturnal London vibes, are the product of not only tangible experiences but also the trio’s forays into the spiritual and metaphysical domains.

The band’s discography thus far includes three extended plays: ‘Dream Forever In Glorious Stereo’, ‘Download Spirit’, and ‘Perfect Kindness’—the latter receiving critical applause after its release by Nettwerk Music Group last summer. Their breakout hit ‘Forever’ has amassed over seven million streams, and their artistry has received nods from industry influencers such as Turtlenek, Paste Magazine, Pigeons & Planes, DUMMY Magazine, At The Barrier, David Dean Burkhart, and Majestic Casual.

‘loner’ stands out as yet another testament to Night Tapes’ innovativeness, serving as the perfect herald to a year poised to be pivotal for the rising stars from London. Undoubtedly, this trio is on an ascent to wider musical recognition.
