Sound of the Week: Sal Dulu

Following on from his breathtaking solo piano composition ‘Xompulse’, Irish producer Sal Dulu returns with collaborative single ‘Buzzcut’ featuring vocals from the sharp-tongued staHHr. The ever-evolving Dublin native combines glitched-hip-hop beats with token classical and jazz components over the Atlanta-based artists’ lyrics, resulting in something really quite sublime. “Buzzcut was made in collaboration with staHHr, an artist I’ve been listening to for a long time,” says Sal. “I wanted the song to emphasise stahhr’s quality as a rapper and her uncompromising style of delivery, I hope the song succeeds in that at least.”

Memphis-born and Atlanta-based, staHHr is an integral part of the Atlanta hip-hop community, member of the Universal Zulu Nation (Atlantis Chapter) and formerly the lone feminine component of the Sub Verse Music and Metalface Records rosters. This authentic voice has accumulated a global fan base and an impressive resume of releases that include MF Doom’s MM..Food and Born Like This, King Geedorah’s Take Me to Your Leader, Micranots’ Obelisk Movements. staHHr has been perfecting her craft and honing her lyrical warrior skills since the latter part of hip-hop’s” Golden Era”. Carving a niche for herself by interweaving intellect, natural law, metaphysics and social awareness with the essence of pure, unadulterated hip-hop.
