Sound Of The Week: Tempest

A distinct voice in the West Coast Alt-R&B scene, Long Beach native Tempest boldly embraces her true artistic vision on her debut EP, The Ranch. This 5-track project marks a significant departure from her previous work, highlighting her evolution and the valuable lessons life has taught her. In The Ranch, Tempest explores topics ranging from salty exes and casual flings to serious personal matters such as industry pressures, staying true to oneself, and overcoming adversity. Her captivating ‘doing whatever I want’ attitude shines throughout, endearing her to fans who appreciate her unapologetic authenticity. With The Ranch, Tempest reclaims her artistic freedom, delivering a sonic journey that will captivate listeners from start to finish.

Tempest decided it was time to take control of her narrative as the pressure to present herself a certain way began to crush her aspirations to create music.

“I love this project for what she stands for. She’s a fighter. A warrior. So much armour. You can hear the pain if you listen close enough. I don’t care about perfecting anything from that time. I want to celebrate that fighting girl and finally show my face!”

The EP consists of the playful, candy-coated title track single “The Ranch” featuring Amindi, which earned praise from tastemakers at The Line of Best Fit, COLORS x STUDIOS, Uproxx, Ones To Watch and more. It also includes “Cha Cha Freestyle,” which sees her continue her bold and unrestrained style. The singles garnered support from numerous editorial playlists, including Spotify’s Vanguard, R&B Weekly, R&B Rising, Fresh Finds R&B, Apple Music’s New In R&B, Brown Sugar, Day One, and the cover of Audiomack’s R&B Discover playlist. The EP is made complete with 3 brand new tracks, “Worthy”, “DontNeedYou”, and focus track “Stop Playing,” all of which point to Tempest as a force to be reckoned with, solidifying the self-proclaimed People’s Princess as a powerful and influential voice in today’s alternative scene as she reclaims her power and inspires others to embrace their own.

As she prepares to reintroduce herself to the world, Tempest is ready to embrace her true self and make music that resonates with her soul. Embracing the boldness of her youth and daring to be herself, she declares: “I’m about to get active and, God willing, I’m better than I was before.”
