Photo by Karla SchradiBerlin-based duo SOFTBLECH return today with their poignant new single, “In The End I Only Think Of You.” Composed of Dennis (bass/vocals) and Henri (guitar/vocals), the pair carve out a distinct space in what they coin “post-wave”, a sonic intersection where the melancholic atmosphere of dark wave collides with the kinetic grit of modern post-punk, nodding to influences from The Cure to Fontaines D.C.
Formed in Hamburg in 2024 before establishing roots in Berlin, SOFTBLECH have quickly earned a reputation on the live circuit—sharing bills with Night Tapes at Urban Spree and Dews Pegahorn at Lark—with sets characterised by blunt, confessional intimacy. Their songwriting avoids tidy resolutions, instead staying embedded in the unvarnished mess of breakups, lingering attachment, and internal contradictions.
On “In The End I Only Think Of You,” developed alongside collaborator Leon Kaak, the duo deliberately fracture conventional pop structures to mirror the disorientation of post-relationship limbo:
“‘In The End I Only Think Of You’ is about the freefall. Not the breakup itself—but what happens after, when the decision is made and you’re still falling. You know somewhere that it’s right, and yet every thought still ends up with her. We tried to write a song that doesn’t resolve that. Because it doesn’t—not quickly. The lyrics jump around, contradict themselves, circle back. That’s not a mistake. That’s exactly what it feels like. You tell yourself it’s all alright. You mean it. And then she calls.
Leon Kaak pushed us somewhere new with this one. Less dark wave, more raw—we broke the song structure on purpose. We wanted something that felt like the inside of someone’s head in those weeks after. Honest, a little restless. Not polished. In the end, we only think of you. That’s not a love song. That’s just the truth.”
Driven by urgent drum machine programming, textured guitar layers, and driving basslines, the track captures emotional vulnerability without slipping into melodrama—a restless, honest document of a mind still catching up to reality.
