The farewell, a summer tale

Sometimes, saying goodbye is like being born again! A KALTBLUT exclusive. Text, Film Direction & Photography by Alejandro Borjas Duncan. The models are Wojtek Fryczewski and Bogdan Romanović. “L’adieu” (The farewell) is a short film separated into two parts where Wojtek, (Polish), and Bogdan, (Ukrainian) recite the same poem. A poem about love, about exploring oneself through the other, but also about break-ups, distance, and hard choices.

United by the same text and by recent history, each one expresses through it a feeling of love melted into melancholy. It is about. the fear of taking the first step, the expectations that are created when meeting someone, and the way in which two souls can join, mix, and even be part of each other… But also about the hard choices, the sacrifices, the sadness, the frustration, and, in some cases, the difficulty to accept reality and say goodbye…

“L’adieu” is not a sad story, just a realistic one. It’s anchored in our troubled and violent world. It is the hope that the end of something leads to the beginning of something new. Sometimes, saying goodbye is like being born again.

“This project was very special for me because I did it with Wojtek, an old friend, and Bogdan, at a time when they were both in Paris for a few weeks. I felt that the moment was perfect and it wasn’t just a coincidence: the political situation in Europe could be an inspiration. I am very concerned about what’s going on in Ukraine. It’s a country that has been fighting during the last decades to maintain its freedom, in a very similar way Venezuelans are also doing it (without success).
It was a beautiful chance to tell a meaningful story also full of symbolism.”
