The Copenhagen/Berlin-based duo alga is poised to captivate listeners with their first release of 2024, presenting the artpop single “Go0dnight.” This track headlines their forthcoming double feature Go0dnight / Filthy, set to drop on September 27th. alga, a collaboration between songwriter Birdie and producer Gabe, brings forth an innovative blend of experimental electronica, merging hyperpop with trip-hop influences. Their sound is a textured exploration of the emotional tapestry experienced during one’s twenties, reflecting both its splendour and tumult.
“Listening to alga is like being caught in a whirlwind,” Gabe describes. “our music holds euphoria, chaos, and everything in between. The sound of alga is raw, unfiltered, and unapologetic, sweeping you off your feet before you’ve had a chance to catch your breath.”
Birdie adds: “Go0dnight is an introspective dive into the threshold between manic joy and deep melancholy. The song was inspired by a close friend living with mental illness, hiding her internal struggles behind a fast-paced lifestyle. It’s a tribute to the complex realities people navigate every day.”
Following the impact of their 2023 debut EP, Don’t Buy Me Flowers, alga has cemented their position as a potent force within Copenhagen’s underground music landscape. With Go0dnight / Filthy, they propel their unique sound to new heights, signalling a significant evolution in their artistic journey.
