CAPITANA’s forthcoming debut album is set to feature the lead single “Real,” entirely written, produced, and mixed by the artist herself. The song stands out with a blend of dreamy and robust drum & bass rhythms, while the lyrics offer an introspective look at the challenges of discerning authenticity in others. An earlier version of “Real” was showcased during Erika de Casier’s NTS mix on February 23, with the complete track scheduled for release on April 25th.
“I generally focus more on the beat, melodies, and the overall production and mix than I do on the lyrics,” CAPITANA explains. “I like it when I get a feeling that the instrumental melodies are telling a story and evoke a sense of development themselves, to which the vocals can add something, if that makes sense. Initially, I wrote some lyrics that were a sort of tribute to a person I know who always sees through society and notices that many adults are just acting and pretending. Eventually, I changed the lyrics so they’re about leaving ‘the actors’ behind to find something real.”
Nanna Fittipaldi Giobbi, the Danish-Argentinian talent behind CAPITANA, infuses her music with a captivating mix of styles and beats, often drawing on Latin American influences and intricate melodies reminiscent of classical piano. Her creations are a testament to her dual heritage, connecting her Argentine lineage with her experiences in Denmark, while her lyrics navigate sociological musings, and the pursuit of belonging and discovery.
CAPITANA’s musical journey has been shaped by her time in prominent cities such as London, Buenos Aires, and Mexico City, developing a distinctive auditory realm. While in London, she made a significant contribution as a composer and pianist to King Krule’s “Czech One.”
Having graced several stages in Denmark throughout 2023, CAPITANA is gearing up to introduce her first album in the summer of 2024, marking a new chapter in her vibrant and multifaceted career.
