Dublin-based label Lacuna quickly serves up its third offering, a captivating split EP featuring Chile’s Nicoba and Peru’s DJ Latinchat. The EP spans four tracks that capture a visionary approach to dembow, weaving a compelling mix of global club influences into exhilarating and essential Latinx dancefloor narratives.
‘Cafuné’ stands out in this collection, offering a heartfelt yet potent fusion of dancehall and halftime beats. This track masterfully balances tension and release, capturing the listener with its cunning intensity.
DJ Latinchat is a talented Peruvian DJ and producer now making waves in Berlin. His journey began with the casual upload of two deep reggaeton tracks — his unique take on cosmic dembow — to Bandcamp at the tail end of 2022. These tracks quickly made a mark, attracting the attention of Latin American club music aficionados. His rising trajectory continued into 2023, as DJ Latinchat’s compositions, rich in Latin American and Caribbean rhythms, found their way into the playlists of some of the genre’s leading DJs such as Dengue Dengue Dengue, Manuka Honey, CRRDR, Bitter Babe, and Parzubanil. These works include tracks from his official debut and various compilations, notably the NAAFI’s Pirata series.
In 2024, DJ Latinchat’s exploration of sound and rhythm persists with a new release on the Polish label Basy Tropikalne featuring remixes by Lila Tirando a Violeta, El PLVYBXY, and 3Phaz.
