Track Premiere: Dragonfruit – ‘Honeymoon Phase’

Dutch Neo-Soul-come-Electronic-Pop quartet Dragonfruit share the title track from their upcoming EP, Honeymoon Phase. The follow up to their recent single ‘Flashing Lights’, Dragonfruit continue to accelerate towards global success with . Blending elements of electronic music, funk, R&B, indie, pop and neo-soul, the Rotterdam-based group’s vibrant sound has already seen them gain a series of accolades across national press and national radio as well as scoring placements on a number of Spotify editorial playlists.

Opening with swinging electronic beats and swelling analogue synth pads, ‘Honeymoon Phase’ creates an uplifting electronic backdrop to reflect against the heartfelt, melancholic lyricism. Topped with the silky, charismatic lead vocals which are prevalent across the EP, the track is given a commercial edge to contrast against the alternative electronic nature of the musical backdrop.

As brass enters in the latter stages of the track, the euphoric nature of the band’s shimmering musicality is emphasized to great effect, creating a vibrant climax when combined with the bouncing bass, choppy rhythms and layers of electronics.

Speaking on the new single, the band share: “The track is about longing to return to the ‘Honeymoon Phase’ of a relationship – the base on which the whole relationship is built upon, when you’ve lost it out of sight but you want to get that flair back.”

Having already gained features across tastemaker press including the likes of Wonderland, Earmilk, Atwood Magazine, Sterofox and Kaltblut as well as placements across Spotify editorial playlists (Soul n the City, Movement, Next Wave Neo Soul, Poolside Grooves, New Music Friday NL, Rhythm n Groove by DJ TARO, Made in NL, Morning Rhythm) and worldwide radio play, including Sublime FM, NPO 3FM, NPO Soul n Jazz, Q Music being added to Amazing Radio’s A-list, the band have built a feverish following and gained millions of streams. With tours across Europe and appearances at renowned North Sea Jazz Festival and Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the band are well on their way to becoming a household name.
