Hailing from the cold climes of Reykjavik, East of My Youth consist of artist duo Thelma Marín Jónsdóttir and Herdís Stefánsdóttir. The electro-pop outfit are back with their expansive and ethereal synth-laden sound, their cinematic storytelling no doubt informed by their other creative endeavours in film and visual arts. Featured in the likes of i-D, The Line of Best Fit and Clash, East of My Youth have also impressed on the festival circuit, including SXSW and Sonar Reykjavik.
East of My Youth find their first release of 2019 with single ‘By Blue’, a beautifully crafted sonic journey infused with celestial ambition. The vocals seamlessly and effortlessly intertwine with the synths and melodies that make for a spine-tingling, otherworldly moment for the listener. A multi layered audio dreamscape, ‘By Blue’ traverses delightful unexpected quirks throughout.
Talking about the process, East of My Youth explain, “By Blue started as a jam session in the studio, so we didn’t release its potential at the time and packed it safely into a drawer of forgotten things. When we revisited the song, the whole meaning came through in a new and interesting way. We were going through changes in life and our project, so the song went through a metamorphosis and became something new and unknown to us.”
