JEFFE’s debut arrives from the depths. ‘WHOEVER YOU LOVE, i’m COOL’ tells a tale of emotional detachment – a small scene peppered with clues of a decaying domesticity. “Did I ever confess I love this mess you made me,” JEFFE sighs over distant piano notes and spectral vocal backing. “Whatever is left comes undone when you hold me.”
From a milky ripple of orchestral strings, groaning woodwinds and heavy-lidded horns, the Sydney-based singer’s woozy first single ‘WHOEVER YOU LOVE, i’m COOL’ doesn’t announces itself so much as dreamily unspool. Above a murky pulse providing skeletal rhythm, JEFFE’s voice drifts in to rise and fall gently over the hum.
It’s the sound of a daydream – half asleep, dusty, its unreliable narrator convinced only of soon having to descend back down into the haze from where it came.
