Soulful, inspired and enigmatic – the Berlin-based indie electronica artist presents two new singles: ‘Too Close’ and its B-side counterpart ‘Too Late’, via Stone Free Berlin. Joplyn returns with her dark, mysterious sound following a rare collaboration with the legendary techno duo Booka Shade, which peaked at #1 in the iTunes Electronic Chart and received over 100,000 Spotify streams. With this expectation to live up to, ‘Too Close’ manages to confidently deliver on all fronts, as her poised vocals are carried along by a deep, brooding bass line. The flourishing creative has grown up experimenting with lyricism, poetry and songwriting, and here she explores the extremely prevalent conflict of gender inequality, with “stepping too close” being a metaphor for “crossing the line”. With her international background – being of Vietnamese-German-Canadian descent – and growing up in the middle of Berlin’s “concrete jungle”, the aspiring artist has never been short of inspiration.
JOPLYN offers a message which we can all relate to on ‘Too Close’, and with another huge collaboration in the works with Robot Koch, and eventually a debut LP to come, this impressive artist is certainly one to watch in 2017.
