Rising Berliner NOCUI premieres his new single, ‘Paradiso’, out 15th on Shapeless Culture, the second from forthcoming EP ‘Anomie’. After spending much of 2022 holed up in Berlin’s celebrated Riverside Studios working on new music and readying for the launch of his Shapeless Culture imprint, NOCUI kicks off 2023 with another killer release from his much anticipated forthcoming EP ‘Anomie’, following the hypnotic ‘Pasión’ in Nov.
On Paradiso I really wanted to convey a sense of transcendence and energy. In this track I tried to encapsulate my orchestral and classical roots by introducing orchestral arrangements and layering during the break. I wanted to convey a sense of blissful urgency… A feeling not very common to the club setting. With this track I’m trying to break the rhetoric of a purely functional sound aesthetic in favour of a more articulate arrangement. The message of this track is one of hope, in the sense that clubs can be more than just that. They can become places where bliss and magic can happen. They can become a place where the world stops rather than going even faster than it already does… I’m excited to share this track with everyone.
NOCUI’s love of analogue equipment and innate musicianship, a product of his background in classical music, comes through in spades in the headsy transcendence that is ‘Paradiso’. ‘Blissful urgency’ is attained through driving deep house aesthetics and a supporting cast of oneiric keys and strings swirling amongst the intermittent call of a sparse yearning vocal.
‘Paradiso’ is a track equally at home as the night builds as it is as the sun rises, delivering hopeful warmth and etheric vibrance to the clubbing experience.
