Hailing from Mumbai, the multifaceted DJ, producer, and musician OX7GEN heralds his latest venture with the HE.SHE.THEY label by unveiling the lead single from his forthcoming EP titled “Why So Demure?,” set to launch on 19th April across all major platforms.
Following the critical success of “Evenire,” his HE.SHE.THEY debut last month, OX7GEN continues to reshape his musical identity. Originally revered for his Drum and Bass expertise, the Indian artist is now infusing his tracks with intriguing new club sounds, furthering his evolution with the release of “Why So Demure?”
The EP exhibits OX7GEN in a more whimsical creative phase, striking a delightful balance between light and dark across two tracks. Leading with the eponymous track, “Why So Demure?” is a radio-ready vocal house number, fusing snappy 4/4 beats with trance-evoking synths destined for big-room events. Turning to a moodier soundscape, “Drip” emerges as a deep, bass-driven club anthem infused with edgy vocal chops and driving kicks that later venture into the deep space of early morning dance floors, subtly paying homage to Goan roots along the way.
“Why So Demure?” is an evolutionary leap following the rebirth that was “Evenire EP” released last month on HE.SHE.THEY. It showcases a more playful and cheeky side of my production, but still keeps the House & Techno sensibilities intact. This two track drop consists of “Why So Demure?”, a Dance/Pop inspired tune featuring my vocal stylings with some studio voodoo. The Darker B-side “Drip”, works as a more bass-line focussed, warehouse targeting, antithesis to the lightness before. I think these tracks perfectly represent the radical inclusion that HE.SHE.THEY. is all about.
“Why So Demure?” draws us deeper into OX7GEN’s diverse musical cosmos, ensuring the exploration remains thrilling. As an impressive sequel to Evenire, the EP finds its place in the impressive, genre-defying catalogue of HE.SHE.THEY, signalling more exhilarating strides from this collaboration as the year unfolds.
A pioneering figure in India’s Drum and Bass scene, OX7GEN’s musical journey has spanned from prestigious labels such as Ram Records and Hospital Records, to exploring new realms featuring leftfield house, techno, and bass. Known for his electrifying performances at festivals like Magnetic Fields and Echoes of Earth, OX7GEN’s previous life involved drumming for metal legends Skyharbor, touring with heavyweights such as Deftones and BABYMETAL.
