In his newest track ‘Fluid’, Semi Precious dives into a more personal narrative, resurrecting an old sketch with newfound emotional depth. This reimagined anthem serves as an ode to the electrifying atmosphere of crowded dance floors, where sexual boundaries become tantalizingly ambiguous and forbidden attractions ignite. The intricately layered electronic production envelops listeners in an ambience of desire and yearning, echoing the recurring themes of unfulfilled passion that define much of Semi Precious’s body of work.
Guy explains, “Fluid was particularly inspired by complicated relationships with… straight men. Especially in clubbing situations where sexual attraction can appear fluid and things can get a bit confusing. I have found myself in that situation, which is exciting but also kind of self-destructive, quite a few times. In a way, I feel it’s an integral part of my gay experience and history.”
“The artwork and accompanying visuals from Berlin Photographer Bartholot also correspond with this complex desire for masculinity. We were working with Adam Raphael’s Barely Working photography series as inspiration, playing with and embodying this homoerotic fantasy of masculinity”.
London-based singer-producer Semi Precious, known offstage as Guy Baron, has garnered acclaim for his ability to craft minimalist and deeply intimate soundscapes, enhanced by his ethereal vocal mantras. His latest EP, ‘Sun is Out’, was showcased through an innovative audio-visual installation at the Museum of the Home in London, mirroring the warm reception of his earlier releases, which have been celebrated by prestigious outlets like The Sunday Times, The Guardian, and i-D.
