Track Premiere: Tickle Torture – ‘Psychic Playmate’

Tickle Torture is the sex-pop soundtrack for a new generation of freaks. His new EP, ‘Lovequake’, can only be described as the sex-pop soundtrack for a new generation of freaks. A perfect concoction of Purple Rain-era Prince and Egyptian Lover’s sleazed out electro-funk, Tickle Torture’s new single ‘Psychic Playmate’ harnesses the power to transport the listener to a Studio 54-esque decadent fantasy. For this new project, Elliott Kozel aka Tickle Torture turned to friends Taylor Johnson (Proper T), Ryan Olson (Poliça) for help and guidance.

“I wanted to create some songs that sounded like they could have legitimately been ripped off of some weird cassette in Prince’s vault, songs he was going to give Vanity 6 or the Time. When I finished it I pitched the whole song up a half step to give it that helium like quality in an attempt to re-create the vibe of If I Was Your Girlfriend by Prince.” – Elliott

Tickle Torture’s first EP, Spiritual Machete (2012), felt like catching Justin Timberlake and Prince fucking in a dumpster full of broken synthesizers. Equal parts electro funk and sleaze, his follow up EP Spectrophilia (2014) further expanded this sound, incorporating the influences of trashy disco, experimental hiphop production sensibilities, and 80’s synth-drenched R&B classics to create a one of a kind maximalist assault. Recently relocating from Minneapolis to Los Angeles, one man producer, composer, engineer Elliott Kozel has just completed his debut full-length LP Lovequake, which explores not just the giddy peaks of modern nightlife, but also the inherent sadness in the 4am aftermath. His ever-evolving aesthetics and songwriting continue the hunt for emotional and spiritual deliverance in the darkest corners of the club when the throbbing bass from the speakers reverberating in your chest and your own heartbeat feel like they are beating totally in sync.
