#SaveTheDate UNDERWORLD: Mycelium Immersive Eco-Cabaret and Queer Ritual Celebration Comes to Berlin! August 18th & 19th, 2023 – Ballhaus Berlin, Chausseestrasse 102, will be transformed into a mystical underground utopia for the groundbreaking event, UNDERWORLD: Mycelium.
This immersive eco-cabaret and queer ritual celebration, hosted by the two-headed symbiotic drag organisms Alexander Cameltoe (Berlin) and Tiresias (Brooklyn), invites audiences to experience the resilience, creativity, and proliferation of fungi.
The event promises an enchanting lineup of performances and installations that explore the symbiotic relationship between humanity and mycelium. Renowned mushroom artist Sharlene Durfey will present a captivating mycological installation, while the Institute of Queer Ecology will screen a thought-provoking short film.
In a groundbreaking interview, attendees will have the rare opportunity to communicate with a mushroom and gain unique insights into the fungal kingdom. Adding to the spectacle, a diverse lineup of internationally acclaimed artists from Brooklyn and Berlin will grace the stage with mycelium-inspired cabaret performances.
One of Berlin’s legendary drag kings and genderfuck performers, Alexander Cameltoe, known for challenging traditional notions of masculinity, will bring his unique artistry to the event. Born in the renowned House of Presents in Berlin, Alexander has made a name for himself in the city’s vibrant drag scene. He recently completed his MA at the prestigious Ernst Busch Academy and gained recognition for his role in the acclaimed production of “Rusalka” at the Staatsoper Stuttgart.
Joining Alexander is the multi-talented Tiresias, a shapeshifter, songwriter, and seer. As a hybrid writer, director, composer, and performer, Tiresias has been a driving force in redefining ecologies and mythologies for a more sustainable future. A recipient of the Luce, Marshall, and Fulbright Scholarships, Tiresias has been artist-in-residence at MacDowell, the Mercury Store, and Nancy Manocherian’s cell theatre.
UNDERWORLD: Mycelium was conceptualized by Tiresias in Brooklyn as a tribute to monstrosity and otherness, designed specifically for the queer nightlife scene. This iteration in Berlin marks the event’s first international production and symbiotic collaboration between two dynamic creative communities.
