Video Premiere: Apashe – Gasoline (ft. Raga)

Innovative producer Apashe unveils his latest genre-bending gem with new single ‘Gasoline’ featuring Delhi hip-hop star Raga, out on 28th April. ‘Gasoline’ is a futuristic mix of industrial synths, brooding strings and India-inspired rhythms, with Apashe’s production matched only by the intensity of Raga’s acerbic flow. Raga’s evocative writing topped with sublime metaphors in Hindi describes his unprecedented infatuation with a fearless, strong woman. Apashe takes it a notch higher with his timeless composition inspired by India’s vibrant culture, resulting in a work of creative brilliance that’s bound to make you rewind in a heartbeat.

Accompanying the single release, ‘Gasoline’ also comes with a cinematic music video that spans stunning locations across the desert and urban landscapes of India. The single offers an early taste of Apashe’s upcoming album, which is set to feature crossover influences of classical music with recordings of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, and collaborations with a number of high-profile artists.

“This project felt more like an adventure than actual shoot,” says director Adrian Villagomez.”Some days were well prepared and some others had a lot of improvisation. This is how John and I used to work together on earlier shoots so it was great to go back with that mindset in a new country. We asked locals about their surroundings, what was possible to do, hoping to find locations that would fit with John’s aesthetics. We were lucky to have Yad, our fixer, organize a lot of scenes with the motorcycles in his village. The castle was an old movie set that was falling to pieces. People asked me if we were okay with that and I would answer: this is exactly what we are looking for. This location really became a centerpiece of the music video, and it was a dream to be able to shoot some choreography scenes there.”

“I got an offer to play the first edition of Lollapalooza in Mumbai. It was truly like a dream come true as I have family I had never met in India. So I took this opportunity to go on a one month long journey across the country. I was able to bring my mom who hadn’t been there in over 25 years and we went to visit her side of the family.

I couldn’t help myself but to work on some music over there and started listening to a lot of Indian Rap which is how I discovered Raga’s music. I immediately reached out to him, we started working on the song and on a music video at the same time. We flew Adrian Villagomez over, who is the legend behind all my music videos.

Everything happened so quickly, Raga’s vocals were recorded in the morning, I mixed it and we performed it at Lollapalooza that same day. The morning after, we were back on the road for the music video shoot across India”.
