In their poignant collaboration ‘TIME,’ Ukrainian artists Comechelet and ϙue delve into the interplay of space, time, and emotion. The album, released on [re.core] (FR), captures the essence of longing and the ache of waiting for a loved one, transforming these feelings into soundscapes that echo the distance between souls.
A beatless exploration, ‘TIME’ deviates from traditional ambient music, shedding its wellness associations to offer something more introspective. The ten tracks fluctuate between expansive soundscapes and moments of melancholic stillness, portraying the constant ebb and flow of human relationships.
Comechelet embraces imperfections within her sonic artwork, utilizing white noise and saturation to infuse authenticity into her compositions. Her passion for love and architecture influences the music, merging visual elements into auditory experiences that alter our perception of space.
On the other hand, ϙue’s production continues themes of ego death and melodic noise, enriched by Comechelet’s intense energy. The resulting sound is a haunting synth landscape that balances uptempo and downtempo influences, compelling listeners to confront themes of loss and hope.
The collaboration was sparked after Comechelet listened to ϙue’s track ‘U’ 727 times, released during the initial days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. This artistic union stands as a testament to the strength and resilience of Ukrainian culture amid crisis, resonating deeply with the ongoing struggle for cultural preservation.
The music video for the opening track encapsulates the emotional tension of unrequited love, set against the backdrop of a stunning 1960s villa in southern France, merging personal narrative with the overarching themes of yearning and silence that resonate throughout the album.
Comechelet and ϙue are Ukrainians whose homeland is currently under brutal attack by Russian forces as you read this article. Please consider donating to a preferred charity through this link to help foster lasting peace on the European continent.
