Video Premiere: Herbert feat. Joy Morgan – Two Doors

Following Herbert’s groundbreaking LP classics ‘Around The House’ (1998), and ‘Bodily Functions’ (2001), ‘Musca’ released in October 2021 on his own Accidental Records is the third in the series of domestic house albums born of both intimacy and collaboration. The LP features eight singers, Verushka, Siân Roseanna, Allie Armstrong, Bianca Rose, Mel Uye-Parker, Daisy Godfrey, Y’akoto and Joy Morgan – all of whom Matthew has never worked with before or met face to face.

Now after the digital release of remixes by the likes of Floating Points, Seven Davis Jr, Moiré, and Mr. Mitch the album gets an official music video for the opening track ‘Two Doors’ feat. Joy Morgan which has been created by a group of creatives directed by photographer and film director Turkina Faso, who has taken pictures for Herbert on the occasion of the French daily newspaper Libération’s interview feature by Olivier Ramm and his Muramuke project with Barbara Panther.

“Written right at the beginning of lockdown, the song is about the choice between reality or fantasy. Sonically you can hear my walk to the studio, but also the sounds of far distant places, deserts, rainforests etc. It’s weird though listening back knowing what was to come and how the tories eventually killed thousands of us through their negligent handling of the pandemic. Am thrilled to have visionary photographer Turkina Faso put imagery to the song.” – Matthew Herbert

“This music video started as part of a short film (Expanding Sea), which transformed into a few exciting things. It’s an ongoing project, we are building a world for the feature film. It is significant that ‘Two Doors’ is not just an independent story which perfectly matched the track by Herbert, but also, a proof of concept for the big story about Emma (Emma Breschi) and her odyssey in London and through her own personal transformations. I started to write this short film in March 2021, in October 2022 we finished the script with an amazing writer Anton Yarush, who joined the project in June. He wrote 80 pages about Emma’s life after a long-term relationship, where she tried to build her new personality or, possibly, to dig for an old and important one, which she lost in time and in people.” – Turkina Faso.

Catch Matthew Herbert live at Rewire Festival, The Hague, NL April 2023 (along with Julian Sartorius), Dekmantel Festival, NL August 2023 (as Wishmountain) and Barbican London, UK October 2023 (The Horse with London Contemporary Orchestra).
