Video Premiere: MANOID – ‘Take Me’ ft. Josephine Philip

MANOID returns to hafendisko this October with his debut long player ‘Truth’, comprising ten original tracks from the Polish producer and live act. With ‘Take Me’ the Warschau-based artist displays his production prowess radiantly fusing an amalgamation of crunchy drums, organic percussion and murky atmospherics alongside a chugging arpeggio bass lead whilst Josephine Philip’s infectious vocal stylings add a further hypnotic, emotive feel to the composition. “The track, just like the whole album was meant to be instrumental,” explains MANOID, “However, while working on it, I unknowingly started singing to the tune and eventually decided to look for someone who actually can sing. I was very excited and honoured that ‘Take Me’ features the same vocalist as Trentemøller’s ‘Even Though You’re With Another Girl’. Director Emiko Okime captures perfectly the question of time and self-reflection within the deep, looping thumps of ‘Take Me’ as our main protagonist struggles to separate reality from imagination in the official clip.

“In addition to music, of course, ‘Take Me’, Manoid was mostly inspired by the fantastic clothes from Paula Fiuk’s collection, the mirrors designed by Oskar Zięta, various plein-airs that we managed to find, and last but not least Magda, my model. The very concept of the clip was very simple – the main character stays in the loop of her desire, dreams, and wishes. It’s almost like in a cocoon… This simplicity paradoxically led to a lot of freedom and improvisation on the set while working with Magda. It enabled us to freely select plein-airs, scenography and props, which in effect meant that filming was a constant search for each of us.” – Director Emiko Okime

Rising producer MANOID has been steadily developing his unique approach to electronic music for the past few years, releasing his first tracks in 2014 and co-producing material for fellow Polish artist Pola Rise, whilst taking his live act across the globe to The Netherlands, South Korea, Iceland and more.

Here though, we see him marking a milestone in his career with his debut album for hafendisko, the Hamburg-based sublabel of hfn music, which has played host to music from Trentemøller, Kasper Bjørke, Lydmor, Null + Void amongst others.

MANOID’s debut album radiantly displays charm, maturity and musicality throughout and joins the thread of his musical influences and experiences perfectly.
