French electro-pop artist Praa reveals a personal, inner journey with ‘Infinite Regress’. The song delves into self-discovery as all emotions are laid bare as if before the eyes of a soulmate. Produced by Ilan Cohen and shot between the breathtaking landscapes of Normandy and the Studios de l’Olivier in Paris, the video captures Praa engulfed by an enormously overbearing labyrinth. Lost in the dark she hopelessly grasps at her surroundings, trying to escape. Reaching a breaking point, she stops to reveal a fantastic aluminium outfit: Praa has had enough. With a cry, she breaks her mirrored prison, revealing her escape to the top of a cliff. Facing the infinity of a pink sky and the expanse of the sea, all doubts disappear and finally leave room for all possibilities. Fans of HAIM, CHVRCHES, and Pale Waves will instantly fall in love.
Praa alias Marion Lagassat was born in the sunny Southern-French town Valence. A child of the 90s born to music-loving parents, she was exposed early on to Britpop sounds and American folk and grew up to the beats of 90s R&B. From Hitchcock to Tarantino and from “Dirty Dancing” to “West Side Story”, Marion spent her childhood watching auteur films and American musicals. It was all but natural for her to fly to Los Angeles upon turning 18. Radio appearances and remarkable coverage on Dailymotion at the age 16 were already promising signs for her future. With her first folk project, she managed to tour her home country opening for major acts. In parallel, she joined a psych-rock band playing the organ. Her unlimited passion and curiosity most certainly nurtured her rich and original musical eclecticism.
Praa was born from the reserved young adult who was hiding beneath a hat and an acoustic guitar. An uninhibited young woman, at ease with herself, like a hymn to human audacity. Let’s rise. Let’s dare. Let’s believe in ourselves. With a preference for musicians like Michael Jackson, Kaytranada, Madonna and Phoenix, the erudite artist synthesizes her many influences to create her own unique sound: Dance Soul. All based around a sparse and minimalist production halfway between electronic and organic, jumbled with French savoir-faire enhanced by Timsters – producer of the EP and her life partner. Love: the essential element that Praa puts at the heart of her project. With only three singles released so far, the Frenchwoman has made her spot in the French musical landscape. In the meantime, she has gained critical acclaim from the hugely demanding foreign media such as BBC, Clash Magazine, Earmilk, Jack, Highsnobiety, Dummy, The 405 and many more. Praa is signed to the avant-garde French label Elephant & Castle. With a debut EP set for release in April and her first live appearances across Europe on the way (including Reeperbahn and Transmusicales), the future looks bright for the elegant lady. A name to follow in 2019.
