Take a first look at the playfully uplifting video for ‘best kept secret’, the title track of Sim Fane’s new EP ‘best kept secret’. The EP tells a love story, specifically the period in which you fall in love but you don’t fully express that love yet. With the combination of cute sounds, a warm sound and the upbeat productions, Sim Fane knows how to translate this feeling on his new EP. Alec’s [West’s] style is playful and colorful, which I think is very similar to the music. That’s why I thought this was a good match between music and visual. The protagonist is at the beginning of a love, and wants to give flowers (the symbol of this project) to his crush. The ‘exploding shots’ symbolize the energetic musical elements. The video shows the collection of the flowers, after which the entire bouquet is handed over to his love. At the end of the video, the two get together. The faces, which are missing during the video, symbolize the ‘secrets’. Something that can still be small and secret in the beginning of the dating process.
With production credits ranging from heartfelt ballads to undeniable bangers, Sam Lawalata, AKA Sim Fane, knows how to tickle your earbuds and impact your emotions. The Dutch-Moluccan producer is a rising star, making his debut in 2020 with the 6-song instrumental EP Where She Lived. That same year, Sim Fane won Baauer’s Bop Battle with his Bop Battle Pack (receiving praise from Flume and Hudson Mohawke, among others) and released the maxi single ‘closure’, featuring Elijah Waters. In the Netherlands, Sim Fane has worked with a variety of national stars, including Bente, Joya Mooi, Hef and former Eurovision contender S10 (for whom he produced most of the songs on her new album). 2022 saw the release of the Apocalyps – EP by SIM—OJ, debuting as a duo with fellow Dutch-Moluccan, SIROJ. He also produced a song featuring Drake on DJ Khaled’s album GOD DID and released his EP ‘Best Kept Secret’ in January ’23.
