Video Premiere: Venus Volcanism – ‘Resuscitation’s Ostinato’

Premiering today is the music video for ‘Resuscitation’s Ostinato’ by Venus Volcanism. This song is a part of Venus Volcanism’s upcoming album titled “TISSUE,” which is set to be released on November 24th by Submersion Records. Venus Volcanism is a multi-talented artist hailing from the island of Crete (GR) and currently based in Siglufjörður (IS), Iceland’s northernmost town, for over 2.5 years.

According to Venus Volcanism herself, ‘Resuscitation’s Ostinato’ holds a special meaning as a cathartic mantra and a sonic talisman. Inspired by a traumatic experience in a recovery room, she created this music piece as a way to redefine and cope with the suffering of helplessness. Throughout the album “TISSUE,” Venus Volcanism used her voice, the sounds of nature, and synthesisers as tools to purify her thoughts and emotions.

In the music video directed by Lefteris Parasyris, ‘Resuscitation’s Ostinato’ opens with field recordings of volcanic eruptions and gradually transitions into a powerful repetition of the phrase “Wake me up!” The precision and climatic repetition of this mantra-like phrase create a meditative and prayer-like experience for the listener. The video features Venus Volcanism embarking on a therapeutic journey through the enchanting Icelandic nature, inviting us to join her in exploring its spiritual mystery. She breathes in the landscapes and breathes out sounds that transform into melodies. The Icelandic nature, both beautiful and treacherous, demands respect and compliance with its sacred laws.

The music video was shot in a few hours during an unexpected encounter between the two artists in Siglufjörður on a snowy day in the spring of 2023.

Venus Volcanism’s second solo album, “TISSUE,” was written and recorded just 32 miles south of the Arctic Circle. It takes listeners on a sonic journey where the sequences and structures of nature intertwine with field recordings, capturing the essence of her Icelandic surroundings.

The album’s title, “TISSUE,” derives from the Latin word “texere,” meaning to weave. Throughout the album, Venus intricately weaves repeating patterns of ethereal vocals, synthesisers, slow arpeggios, and field recordings. “TISSUE” is a sonic heterotopy, suspended between the tangible and surreal, where nature’s vibrations and cyclical patterns are interwoven into the artist’s introspective journey of coming to terms with her own scar tissue.
