Wallis’s Top 5

Following the innovative release from Argentinean musician Manu Calmet on her JELL label, Wallis is the latest addition to grace our Top 5 series! This impressive four-track compilation solidifies Wallis’ label’s visionary approach, dedicating itself to the infusion of distinctive sounds into the techno scene.

Wallis, endearingly nicknamed the “queen of the nerds,” channels her fervour for tangible synthesizers and inventive recording methods to perform at illustrious venues including Berghain and major festivals like Awakenings or DGTL, among others. Her discography boasts contributions to Ellen Allien’s Bpitch, Perc Trax, and Kobosil’s R Label Group, to list a few.

On her Top 5 selection Wallis shares, “Whether the DJ before you put everyone to sleep, or you feel that the dancefloor is getting a little too introverted and you need people to interact with one another a little, it’s good to have a few tracks on hand that are sure values to create an unforgettable dance floor moment for everyone involved. Here are some that I am currently playing when my set needs an energy shift.”

1. Ant – We Rock This

“We start off with an old classic. A masterpiece of groove, sound design and creative looping. One of those timeless power tools that everyone needs to have on hand. It will never get old.”

2. Virgil Enzinger – lifestream (Quick&Smart Remix)

“This is one of those tracks that is so unique and full of energy, when it drops on the dance floor, nobody has a clue what is happening. It’s so versatile, could fit in a set regardless what type of electronic music you play. And the crowd will go crazy. Every single time.”

3. Rhyw – Honey Badger

“This one is hands down one of the sickest beat and arrangement produced in the last few years. From a DJ standpoint it’s the perfect track. It never ever fails to create an insane moment on the floor. It would fit in your set whether you play techno or house. And it would be the high point of your set regardless. This is how you know the track is really special.”

4. Paul Birken – Fistiscruffs

“When you want unique sounds, Paul Birken is always your guy. One of my favorite producers since day 1. This track is weird in the best way possible. It’s a guaranteed trip.”

5. Kink – Raw

“Always nice to drop a house track in any sets, and who does it better than Kink. This track just makes me happy. It’s got everything it needs.”
