The final of three issues of WAUZINE, titled MATATU tells us a story of Nairobi, a story of 11 designers and their creativity, seen through the eyes of an exceptional team of visionaries, creatives, leaders of the East African fashion and art scene.

ONE PROJECT, TWO COUNTRIES, ELEVEN DESIGNERS, BOUNDLESS CREATIVITY

In this issue, Sunny Dolat and his team offer a unique insight into the cultural phenomenon of Matatus, vibrantly decorated minibuses and their equally vibrant kenge (conductors), which are so much more than just a means of transport. The issue explores the powerful expression of fashion aesthetics, the city, its influences and the impact it has on its people. The striking images of Edwin Maina and words by Wanjeri Gakuru captivate us with Nairobi’s energy and celebrate the power of collaboration.

WAUZINE, which derives from ‘Wau’ a Nairobian for ‘Wow’ is designed and created by the team behind Fashion Scout; with Helen Jennings, Co-founder and Editorial Director of Nataal Media as Features Editor, which showcases exclusive photoshoots under the creative direction of Sunny Dolat, Fashion Curator and Co-founder of The Nest Collective.

As the UK partner of the British Council’s year-long Creative DNA programme, Fashion Scout is spearheading this online platform in order to present the designers work to a global audience, whilst celebrating a diverse variety of voices and creativity.
