Who’s in control? by Han Jansen

With his graduation project ‘who’s in control?’ Han Jansen is questioning the role of the designer within our society. Is it our profession to generate material products? Or are we also able and allowed to create immaterial content, content we can not actually own. In Han’s eyes desire is way more interesting than possession.

“It’s my reaction to the consumption society we’re living in. Everything has to be fast, easy, cheap and efficiently. But is this making us happy? With my graduation project ‘Who’s in control?’ I’m doing the totally opposite from what the society expect from us, in order to find out if it gives me and my audience satisfaction. I am creating performances and I am executing actions which are totally useless, but not senseless. I am creating an image, I’m creating content. The question that arises: ‘Squandering, consuming, controlling, are we subject to the object or the experience?’ ”
