‘Now Won’ by The John-Pauls is about the joy of the moment and the transience of memory. Director Phillip Niemeyer (an avid lap swimmer) photographed swimming pools in Austin, Texas, daily, over the course of six months. The footage, of the same two pools, never repeats. Waves and light dance in time to The John-Pauls’ hypnotic beat. In the final frames we meet some swimmers. “No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.” — Heraclitus.
The John-Pauls are a four piece band from Austin, Texas, playing post-punk with a new verve. Vocals are shared by Phillip John-Paul, a flat but charismatic singer, and Mikila John-Paul, whose voice is vulnerable and fascinating. ‘Now Won’ is the first single from The John-Pauls upcoming album ‘Forget to Remember to Forget’ to be released on may 5 2017 via Aagoo Records, available to pre-order here
