Every year AFW presents ‘Lichting’: the best Academy Graduates of one year in one catwalk show, where the best one gets picked out by the audience. In the audience are CEO’s and design managers on the look-out for talent. This year Nikki Duijst had the honour of winning with a beautiful collection. Congrats Nikki!

I loved most of the collections, but the ones that stood out where definitely Nikki’s and for me Sophie Hardeman’s jeans collection (those models!). While I find the graduate shows often more inspirational then the main shows as I think they’re more in tune with the zeitgeist, I was surprised by the lack of dark skinned or anything other than white models. Surely in this time fashion designers should look further and break traditions.
