Emerging from the vibrant Strasbourg scene and the Strasbourg Conservatory, Emile Londonien is a trio that met during thematic evenings organized by the Omezis collective, co-founded by drummer Matthieu Drago. Their unique interpretation of the English jazz scene is influenced by a diverse range of artists, including Yussef Kamaal, The Comet Is Coming, Atjazz, Sun Ra, Ornette Coleman, Thelonious Monk, Broken Beat, Jazz, House, and Hip Hop.
In 2020, a studio session paying homage to the English scene led to the spontaneous creation of the moniker Emile Londonien, which pays tribute to their UK influences and a renowned French saxophonist. Emile Londonien embodies the “next-gen” French jazz alongside Léon Phal, effortlessly blending tradition and contemporary music.
Embodying the words “smooth,” “cool,” and “sexy” is the purvey of the jazz spirit that stirs within Emile Londonien, particularly in their newest single release “Fly” which features the addictive vocal performance of CHERISE. The track melds R&B elements quietly into its melodic structure, punctuated by a subtle but undeniably funky bass that truly elevates the flavour and sultriness factor up a notch.

The song “Fly,” fittingly titled, explores the concept of freedom, but not the typically chaotic, indulgent freedom commonly portrayed in songs. Through the lyrics, Emile Londonien and CHERISE offer a perspective that values the self as inherently precious, emphasizing the need to be free even from excesses that could otherwise restrain it once more.
The collective is preparing to release their upcoming EP “Three Roses” on May 17th, described as an eclectic fusion of jazz, soul, broken beat, and house music, presented innovatively. One of the tracks on the EP is “Fly,” featuring CHERISE, who received the prestigious title of Vocalist Of The Year by Jazz FM in 2019. Additionally, percussion virtuoso Ivan Conti, who founded the renowned band Azymuth, also makes an appearance on the EP.
