Dutch photographer Ari Versluis and profiler Ellie Uyttenbroek started a photo project in 1994 called ‘Exactitudes’ (‘exact’ and ‘attitudes’). The project is build up by different identities: every project consists of twelve portraits, structured in a grid. The people in the grid look alike, dress alike, even pose alike. It is one of the strongest projects I know, people always change and so will the project, it can go on forever. Ari and Ellie together document our society in an anthropological way, it’s the simple way of portraying these people in a grid, which makes them part of something bigger. People want to be different, but we aren’t as unique as we think, we still find similarities in appearance. On the one hand we want to differ ourselves by choosing a specific dress code and on the other we are subconsciously attracted to a bigger group and want to relate to them. The selection I picked is a journey through people, time and place.
