On March 20, 2026, the highly anticipated EP Butterfly by Faravaz took flight, followed closely by a striking new music video directed by Kerstin Polte, released today on March 30, just a day ahead of Trans Visibility Day. This release is a clarion call from a vibrant collective, centred on community and led by FLINTA and queer voices, featuring remarkable artists such as Yaenniver, Mine, Sookee, the D-Dur Dykes Choir (the largest FLINTA choir in Europe), Lin, and more.
Butterfly unfolds across four unique versions of the same song, each exploring different genres and emotional depths while maintaining a cohesive melody and lyrics. The EP also offers an instrumental version for those eager to lend their own voice to the music. In contrast to previous works, this project is a celebration of collaboration, infusing danceable rhythms and a newfound emotional resonance, particularly evident in its acoustic rendition.
This release emerges from an urgent and poignant place. In Iran, Afghanistan, and countless other regions, queer individuals continue to face repression, violence, familial pressure, conflict, and fear. With Butterfly, the artist aims to craft a sanctuary of visibility, solidarity, and connection—a powerful reminder that no one is alone in their struggles.
As a project led by FLINTA and queer artists, Butterfly holds profound significance, transcending mere musical achievement to become a beacon of hope and empowerment for marginalised communities.
