EP Premiere: Unconscious Honey – Fault Lines

Exploring the Depths of Synth-Pop – Unconscious Honey, the brainchild of Berlin’s very own Björn Trenker, is taking the synth-pop scene by storm with the premiere of the new EP: Fault Lines. Drawing inspiration from a myriad of sources including Björn’s professional background in psychiatry and the captivating lives of Gloria Steinem and Samuel Steward, Unconscious Honey has crafted a truly unique sound that can only be described as a combination of Hal 9000 and Betty Boo.

The debut album, “BEING A STRANGER,” garnered critical acclaim, receiving favourable reviews from renowned queer Berlin city magazines such as Siegessäule, BLU, and KALTBLUT Magazine itself, which hailed it as one of the best dance music albums of 2020. Building on this success, Björn and his regular co-producer and husband, Paul “Snax” Bonomo, embarked on a creative journey during the pandemic, breathing new life into their songs on the reimagined EP titled “LOOSE BEGINNINGS.” Collaborating with a curated group of LGBTQ artists and friends, including Electrosexual, Mavin, and Snecker, they’ve breathed fresh energy into each track, enriching the project with dynamic reinterpretations.

FAULT LINES – A WEIRD TIME TO CUT LOOSE

Björn delved into the composition process for the four tracks on the EP right after the release of their second album. An eagerly anticipated live performance was in the works, offering a chance to connect with fans on a deeper level. Alas, fate had other plans as the emergence of the pandemic’s second wave forced the cancellation of the event. Nevertheless, like many creatives, Björn saw this obstacle as an opportunity to forge ahead and channel their emotions into new material.

Fuelled by the emotional aftermath of the lockdown experience, Unconscious Honey’s mastermind felt a newfound sense of urgency to lend his voice to these evolving songs. Emanating from the silky baritone, a unique blend reminiscent of Amanda Lear, Leonard Cohen, and Ringo Starr, this EP showcases the depth and versatility of their artistry.

The EP comprises four enticing tracks, each offering a distinct sonic journey. “Fault Lines,” an entrancing synth-pop number, explores the quest for moments of joy amidst adversity. “Percolate,” an upbeat and infectious tune, delves into the insecurities intertwined within romantic entanglements. “Crush of Time,” influenced by the enigmatic world of Twin Peaks, envelops listeners in the surreal experience of finding oneself lost in the mystifying night, entering a state akin to religious transcendence. Finally, “Sense of Rapture,” an exploration of the highs and lows in the realm of queer cruising, delves into the complex emotions of loneliness, disappointment, and the solace found within a secret community.

“FAULT LINES” is released via Random Records. This EP promises to be a captivating addition to Unconscious Honey’s discography, solidifying their status as innovators within the synth-pop genre.
