Facetasm Spring/Summer 2024 – Coming of Age

Facetasm rocked the Paris Fashion Week with its new Spring/Summer 2024 collection “Coming of Age”. With impulsive designs and clever detailing, Hiromichi Ochiai, the Japanese designer behind Facetasm, injected poetry into his streetwear-centric silhouettes.

Inspired by his 7-year-old son Shiro’s transition to adolescence, Ochiai created a fantasy collection based on the memories and feelings of childhood. The result is a colourful and vivid collection that celebrates the joys and struggles of growing up.

The collection’s details are all about naive styling, with ruffle-edged applique stripes in different shades and pleated chiffon layers that trail vaporously behind cute denim overalls. The plaid shirting references teenage years, while the vividly striped ribbed knits inject the collection with an allover look. Knee-high socks also add to the overall fun and youthful atmosphere.

In a nod to workwear, jackets featured double denim marked with big polka-dot patterns and paint splotches, layered in black or white. The ruffles in the collection gained volume throughout the show, seeming to veer in all directions.

Ochiai’s imagination and clever design details create a beautiful and poignant collection that encapsulates the theme of “Coming of Age”. As Ochiai says through an interpreter after the show, “Like emotions, you can’t direct them”. And Facetasm’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection is a perfect reflection of this.
