Finding The Courage To Create: Godwin’s EP “Road To Nirvana”

“It’s music for people to heal,” shares 23-year-old musician and filmmaker, Godwin Josiah, about his latest EP. Born and raised in Kaduna, Nigeria, Godwin has been garnering international attention from supporters like Morgan Freeman, Kemi Adetiba, and Taika Waititi.

Drawing from soul, R&B and afrobeat influences, he combines music and film to create timeless pieces that speak to the human condition. His EP, “Road To Nirvana” is a 5-track testament to the healing journey: exploring the themes of loss, hope and forgiveness.

“Looking back at my first project, it’s a product of grief. I wanted it to be about love, but didn’t have the capacity. That’s why I wrote, ‘Proud Of You,’ as a confirmation of forgiveness. My new work is coming from a more healed person seeking love. You can hear it.”

Godwin’s not hesitant to share how the loss of his mother had a profound impact on his path as a musician. That’s why heart, healing and hope are key themes that transcend his art today. Raw, contemplative, uplifting. His message has found its way to people’s hearts, serving a reminder: in order to heal, we need to feel.

“Sometimes we know what we need to do to get to peace, but it’s quite hard to cross that bridge. There’s things you need to figure out. It’s very personal.”

Alongside his music journey, Godwin is a member of the Nigerian filmmaking collective, “The Critics Company”. Founded with his brothers back home, together they’ve found the courage to create. Their film, “War Is Coming”, was picked up by Morgan Freeman’s production company, Revelations Entertainment, back in 2022.
