Lil Nas X Returns With New ‘J. Christ’ Video

Lil Nas X, the artist who once famously gave Satan a lap dance, has resurfaced after a two-year hiatus with his latest musical offering, “J. Christ.” The accompanying video, which marks the artist’s directorial debut, is a provocative piece that sees Lil Nas X engaging in a spirited basketball game with the devil and embarking on a journey aboard an ark through a worldwide deluge.

The visual spectacle commences with a procession of individuals ascending the stairway to heaven, with notable appearances by caricatured celebrity figures bearing a passing resemblance to Taylor Swift, Barack Obama, Oprah, Kanye West, and Ed Sheeran. The scene then transitions to the depths of hell, where the artist is depicted tending to a cauldron of limbs before returning to heaven for the climactic basketball showdown with the devil. The video culminates with Lil Nas X navigating through the floodwaters aboard an ark.

“J. Christ” not only heralds the commencement of a new album cycle for Lil Nas X, following the success of his debut LP, “Montero,” in 2022, but it also signifies a shift towards a somewhat religious theme. This transition comes from his previous controversial ventures into religious imagery, characterized by the devilish antics that sparked widespread debate and earned him notoriety.

In addition to ushering in this new chapter, Lil Nas X is preparing to unveil his concert documentary, “Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero,” offering an intimate portrayal of the artist’s transformative journey, from rapid stardom to navigating issues surrounding his sexuality. The film, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, is slated for release on HBO and Max on January 27th, promising a blend of electrifying performances and candid interviews.
