LML Studio Fall/Winter 2023

May I introduce you to LML Studio and one of our fave collections during Berlin Fashion Week? Lucas Meyer-Leclère has already been called a child prodigy. There is no question that his fall/winter 2023 collection is one of the most impressive this season. His ready-to-wear has a couture character and most of the looks are so elaborately worked that they resemble more wearable works of art.

His more than 30 looks for the coming season came about as a result of a special request. With them, the designer wants to emphasize and strengthen the tailoring tradition in Berlin. Another constant source of inspiration for the designer and an important part of the LML Studio DNA are Marlene Dietrich and David Bowie and their continued presence in Berlin after their deaths.

His designs for the coming season are just as bold, progressive, surprising and idiosyncratic as the characters and styles of the legends. One is now adorned with a reversible jacket made of silk viscose. This is complemented by a lightweight collarless wool and silk blazer, held together with a crocheted mohair belt and styled into open-front trousers. A sleeveless coat, made of different coloured patches, is decorated with hand-knotted and hand-painted silk braids.

A favourite look of the designer is a hand-knit recycled polyester blazer worn over tailored shiny black jacquard trousers and hand-painted shoes. All of his designs are one-offs or only available in very limited numbers, they are intended for every gender and body shape and are created by hand in his studio in Berlin. This doesn’t just mean the silhouettes, but the native Frenchman also develops many of his materials himself. He decorates and paints fabrics by hand, using only recycled yarns. In collaboration with textile designer Joy Weinberger, he also designed all the woven fabrics himself for fall/winter 2023.

During Berlin Fashion Week and as part of Berlin Contemporary, Lucas Meyer-Leclère presented his
collection in St. Marienkirche on Alexanderplatz. He consciously breaks the typical pace and choreography of a classic fashion show, letting his models pause between candlesticks to give guests the opportunity to look at his designs in peace. The LML studio show was accompanied by an organist who played historical and contemporary works.
