Music Women Germany – the first nationwide network and database for women* in all areas of the music industry in Germany has arrived! Regardless if you are an artist, in business, media or tech – whether you are a conductor, manager, entrepreneur, musician, producer or technician, all women* working in the music industry are offered possibilities for qualification and participation in networking events for career development and empowerment.
Music Women Germany was founded on the 19th of September 2019 at the Reeperbahn Festival as an independent umbrella organisation for the 16 regional networks – (still in development) located in each federal state for the support, connection and representation of women* in the music industry, as well as connecting with existing networks within Germany. The Music Women Germany organisation has developed a nationwide database for all women* in the music community.
The goal of the new platform www.musicwomengermany.de and its integrated database is to achieve gender equality and the participation of women* working in music at every level, for every age and regardless of their background. Music Women Germany acts as a source for connecting and creating with women* in the music industry. Our motivation is to create a diverse, intersectional, digital and linked-up local music culture and economy in order to achieve women*’s equal access into the music business.
The following committed institutions have thankfully taken over the sponsorship of the local networks that have already been established: The Berlin Music Commission has assumed responsibility for the regional branch office of Berlin musicBwomen. RockCity Hamburg is responsible for the regional branch office of Hamburg musicHHwomen. The Popakademie in Mannheim carries the musicBWwomen and c/o pop, together with popnrw, is responsible for the musicNRWwomen branch. Musikland Niedersachsen is responsible for the musicNDSwomen and the sponsorship for Music Women Germany is taken over by BV POP.
Thanks to the support of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, GEMA, Roskilde Foundation and RockCity Hamburg e.V., an advisory body for women* in music was set up in Hamburg. Since September 2019, Music Women Germany initiator Andrea Rothaug has been available for a two-hour consultation (from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.) at the office of RockCity Hamburg e.V., Sternstrasse 4, 20357 Hamburg twice a month. A prior appointment with the content to be discussed is desired.
In addition, the Music Women Germany Board and the Ambassadors from various areas of the music industry will represent the network. Supported by Freie und Hansestadt Hamburg, Behörde für Kultur und Medien and Initiative Musik gGmbH with project funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
