Called an “interdisciplinary gospel immortalist” by Kembra Pfahler of the Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black, Tyler Matthew Oyer is an artist and musician. Known for their goth-pop performances, Tyler’s performative, esoteric, and critical projects engage history as material that lives in and through us, shaping how we see ourselves, each other, and the world.

Tyler engages with artist legacies (living and deceased) with the intention of stewarding queer inheritances across time, honoring those who have come before us, whose example provides a fierce roadmap for challenging the status-quo and offering relief and inspiration for those most held down by the forces of domination.

Taking inspiration from cross-disciplinary artists like Peaches, Genesis P-Orridge, Diamanda Galás, Kembra Pfahler, and Klaus Nomi, Tyler has three self-released albums RELEASE DELUXE (2017), NO TEMPLE (2020), and RETEMPLE (2020). They have performed at the Getty Museum, Hammer Museum, MoMA PS1, REDCAT, Silencio Paris, Ekebergparken Oslo, Lukiskes Kalejimas 2.0 Vilnius, and Shedhalle Zürich.

While in residence in Vilnius, Lithuania, during summer 2021, Tyler developed a new live show entitled VENUS. This photo story by Vilnius-based photographer Milda Vyšniauskaitė depicts Tyler in preparation days before the premiere of VENUS, in rehearsal and in contemplation.
