Saundia “Honey” is Pure Gold; Pure Soul.

One of the most wonderful things about the modern music scene is that you often get these absolutely stunning artists who seem to be able to do it all and retain much if not the entirety of their creative independence in the process of conceptualizing a song and releasing it to the public. One such artist is the self-produced, singer-songwriter Saundia, whom we’re looking at today.

Saundia is an L.A.-based multi-hyphenate artist who has been writing and producing music for many years, but whose proper foray into the world at large only really took off in the summer of 2022 with the release of her debut single.

Saundia’s newest track is titled “Honey” and while not exactly sweet all the way through, it certainly flows and drips gracefully into your ears, enthralling you with the seductive mystery of its dark melody. “Honey” is teeming with cinematic intrigue right from the get-go, the synth-ified humming of Saundia’s own vocals serving as the prime backing instrument next to the snappy downtempo beat. The song’s environment is uncluttered and elegant, but there’s an eerie feeling at first, like gazing long into the eyes of a housecat, that odd primal monkey brain of yours making the subconscious connection between the predators of ancient times, while your more conscious, aesthetic brain is transfixed by the perfect varmint-killing beauty of it all.

“Oh I can see my Soul looking back at me

And I like what I see

And so I’ll stand as I am, in Honey

Pure Soul

Pure Gold

Honeycomb”

Try as you like to interpret the song, it is purely yours do hear into it what you like, I for one think often of the headiness of Saundia’s vocals (which I loved!) and I can’t help but feel it’s all about sensual stimuli going up your chakras and blasting off out of your eyes like a lighthouse towards the universe.

Now, this is an incredible way to make a song about addiction…

I think Saundia has done something incredibly genius and unique. Yes, ‘Honey’ is about being addicted and being unable to escape the pull of that temptation but finding the strength somewhere, somehow to see past the dark, terrible lures that keep us down – The titular ‘Honey’ turns then into the purifying panacea that removes the shackles we once found ourselves bound with.
