#saveourschwuz – Calling for help to save the existence of the oldest and largest queer club in Germany

A message from SchwuZ: To all guests of SchwuZ, We have urgent news: According to an announcement by Berlins mayor and the health department SchwuZ is obliged to close its doors immediately. We completely understand the reasons for this, given the current situation, but want to protect everybody’s health: our employees, our guests, our artists. We also want to acknowledge the enormous problems we are now facing. We want to be honest with you: This closure will hit us, hard. www.schwuz.de

We want to show our solidarity with our more than 100 employees, the many, many freelance artists who work every month with us on every level, the organizers, and also with everyone else for whom we open our doors every night: migrants, FLTI* and queers from all corners of the world – and of this city: With you.

We‘ve been showing this solidarity – often including a great financial commitment to the cause – for the past 43 years. We are a place that‘s been build daily for and with our communities. What we earn, we give back in many, many ways. Because of that, SchwuZ does not have the necessary financial resources that would allow us to close for months on end. It will threaten the existence of the oldest and largest queer club in the German-speaking world acutely.

We therefore need your help!

In the interests of our employees, artists, regular staff, organizers and of course guests, we will develop solutions for this fight in solidarity with all our communities, colleagues and the authorities. We want to economically survive this time of closure and want to master the time after the reopening. For and with you.

Thank you so much for your interest and care.

Also: Be kind to each other, take care of yourself and others. Support each other, especially older queers who often have no support.
