It means “melt and merge” and is the process that leads a human being towards spiritual enlightenment. It’s divided in three parts. Nigredo, the black stone, that symbolizes the state of matter where everything is possible. Albedo, the white stone, is when you heat the matter and it becomes white, purifying itself. Rubbed is the red stone. It represents the last mutation of matter in something new and more noble.
