Sound Of The Week: Clara La San

Mysterious composer, producer, and vocalist Clara La San is thrilled to reveal her first studio album “Made Mistakes,” scheduled for release on June 7 under her own label, CLS Music, in collaboration with AWAL Recordings. Coinciding with this announcement is the release of a radiant new single, “Talking to You”. Clara, a versatile audio artist, melds contemplative synthesizers with deep drum beats and bright harp sounds on “Talking to You”, a track she has written, performed, and produced by herself. The single includes a compelling music video directed by Actual Objects (known for their work with Bad Bunny, Dua Lipa, Yves Tumor, Caroline Polachek), offering a narrative sequel to the video for her previously powerful single “Don’t Worry About It”, released last month.

“Don’t Worry About It” features ethereal melodies and a robust urban beat, showcasing Clara La San’s formidable abilities in crafting songs that are both innovative and immediately captivating. This track marked her first release following the 2023 re-issue of “In This Darkness”, which achieved massive streaming numbers and solidified her unique sound. In April, Clara also made an appearance as one of the two exclusive features on Bryson Tiller’s much-anticipated self-titled album.

Clara’s music richly integrates diverse musical styles—from early-2000s R&B to modern rap beats—while weaving in influences from film scores and cutting-edge sound design. This unique blend is enhanced by additional production from Yves Rothman (Amaarae, Blondshell, Yves Tumor) and mixing by the renowned Tony Maserati (Mary J Blige, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga), fostering a distinctive fusion of soul and pop. Her unmistakable style is complemented by her uncanny knack for crafting compelling vocal top-lines and lush harmonies that leave a lasting impression and keep her expanding audience, including fellow artists and fans, coming back for more.

From early guest vocal performances to headlining her own mixtape “Good Mourning”, co-produced with UK electronic artist Jam City in 2017 and since removed from digital platforms—adding to her enigmatic presence—Clara has continually refined her songwriting prowess. Her subsequent credits for artists like Yves Tumor and Bicep highlight her broad talent and affirm her confident solo voice that reflects both her artistic growth and her bold approach to the music industry.
