BLACKOUT

A KALTBLUT exclusive menswear feature. Photographer Oliver Rauh captured João Barriga´s SS/17 Collection Blackout for us. Together with 10 other selected designers, the Portuguese youngster presented his collection as part of the SANGUE NOVO – Young Blood Competition, in a collective fashion show at the opening of ModaLisboa and won the ModaLisboa Award. The all in black collection comes only in black, but in all genders, it’s “peoplewear” inspired by oversized sports- and clubwear. Models are Diogo Rafael, Fábio Tavares and Joaquim Arnell all signed at WeAreModels. Styling by Nico Sutor. Hair und make up: Antonia Rosa Atelier, head of makeup at ModaLisboa.

Who am I? What defines me as a human being? My gender, my body, my memories? How can we use garment to change and shape the world’s perception of ourselves? A series of questions emerge through a nihilist view of reality, which the only answer is BLACKOUT: an expression of sorrow, rebellion, self-destruction and emptiness.
