Track Premiere: Eliot Lipp – ‘Reflection’

Austin-based musician Eliot Lipp preps the release of Skywave; an album Lipp has been working on for the past several months. With influences from sci-fi soundtracks and 70s and 80s funk, he channels a collection of weird, high-definition, melodic beats. In these nine songs Lipp feels he “might have everything I want to say in one moment.” Recreating key musical moments in a current and relatable way was the goal in producing Skywave and giving himself permission to take some risks as well. ‘Reflection’ came from a jam session with Gibbs and Cherub in their Nashville studio. ‘Skywave’ will be released June 23rd on Detroit-based label, Young Heavy Souls.

One of my favourite duo’s of all time is Reflection Eternal. They’ve been a key influence in the way I produce. I gave a lil nod to Hi-Tek’s “too late” with the synth line on this track. Reflection Eternal taught me how powerful collaborations can be within music. The first version of this song came from a jam session I had in Nashville with Gibbs and the boys from Cherub. We all spent a week cranking out music, recording songs, sessions, ideas. A few months later I came across some of the recordings while on a flight and decided to use some of it. It’s one of the most headphone friendly tracks on here, probably because that’s how it was made.
