Aphros

Aphros (Greek for foam) explores the relationship between femininity and the sea. Amidst the shapeshifting texture of foam springs Aphrodite with her gifts of fertility, love, and war. Photographed in Southend, UK by Hannah Sommer in the beautiful home of collector and decorator Tracey, this editorial juxtaposes feminine softness with earthy textures and textiles created by Erika Janavi and modeled by the artist and musician Djenaba (Damsel Elysium). A KALTBLUT exclusive.

Erika Janavi creates surrealist couture, inspired by Victorian silhouettes and with profuse attention to detail. Her style is romantic, playful, elegant and sensual. The designs are constructed almost exclusively from antique and vintage fabrics and trimmings. All materials for her wearable art are meticulously sourced worldwide and picked for their quality, condition, uniqueness and, of course, beauty.

Hannah Sommer, a 2022 MA graduate of Art and Visual Culture from the University of Westminster, is a US photographer based in London and North Carolina. Her work explores surrealism through fashion and portraiture and often explores themes of mythology and mysticism.
