Backstage at Kasia Kucharska S/S27 – AN IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE

KASIA KUCHARSKA presented its Spring/Summer 2027 collection with an immersive experience that explored the concept of trompe-l’œil—the subtle illusion and psychological friction between appearance and reality. Staged within the newly established Open Fashion Block, the venue provided the perfect location for the presentation, seamlessly anchoring the collection’s examination of the gap between how we appear on the outside and how we actually feel within.

The collection deals directly with the tension of being strong on the exterior while remaining distracted or vulnerable on the inside. This concept was masterfully translated into the materiality of the garments. Kucharska took universal wardrobe archetypes, such as classic trench coats, denim jackets, and traditional knitwear, and handcrafted them entirely from latex. The expected textures were disrupted by deliberate design glitches, missing details, multiplied elements, and childlike scribbles that cracked the illusion and revealed another layer beneath the surface.

In collaboration with Nike and AAS, the presentation extended this conceptual framework into the physical space. The spatial installation, design, and production were executed by AAS:set:project (by Gonzalez Haase AAS & Stéphane Moun), creating a setting where a series of characters moved through familiar, daily routines. Performing a slightly twisted version of normality under the movement direction of Franka Marlene Foth, the subjects reinforced the message that while everything appears familiar, nothing is quite what it seems.

The creative team was completed by stylist Natacha Voranger, casting directors Tom Goddard and Tanguy Gavignet, make-up artist Naomi Gugler, hair stylist Adiam Habtezion, and sound designer Oleg Solovey.

Documenting the immersive atmosphere and the unique, tactile nature of the latex garments from behind the scenes, photographer Shin Jeong Hoon was on hand to capture the presentation. His backstage photography provides a precise look at the intricate craftsmanship, the subtle structural anomalies, and the pre-show preparations, offering a thorough and professional perspective on one of our favourite highlights of the Berlin Fashion Week schedule.
