Backstage at Marina Hoermanseder Sring/Summer 2027

For the Spring/Summer 2027 season, Marina Hoermanseder is launching us straight into the unknown. With Outer Space, the designer constructs a futuristic universe fueled by curiosity, fantasy, and the absolute courage to disrupt the norm. Inspired by the infinite expanse of the cosmos, the collection tells the story of powerful female figures leaving familiar boundaries far behind to explore entirely new worlds. During the Berlin Fashion Week madness, our photographer Thilo Wilcke went backstage to capture the raw, unfiltered energy of this cosmic transformation for us.

The looks are a brilliant clash of protection and transformation. Think armour-like elements meeting high-gloss chrome finishes, ice-blue leather, and sculptural silhouettes that completely dominate the space. At the same time, we see the return of one of the brand’s most iconic craftsmanship signatures: the intricate Twisted-Buckle technique. Twisted buckles replace traditional seams entirely, while contrasting layers of leather give an incredible sense of depth and dimension.

As futuristic as the collection feels, Hoermanseder is also taking us back to her roots. Vegetable-tanned leather- a defining material of her early work—is fused with sculptural forms and those distinct, orthopedically inspired elements she’s known for, all reinterpreted through sharp draping. The Hyper Physicality Vase translates exaggerated anatomical ideals into a deliberately oversized design language, throwing a beautifully critical glance at toxic masculinity.

Naturally, the iconic buckles, rivets, and heavy hardware are front and centre, stamping the designer’s unmistakable signature onto every look. And for the first time, the brand is bringing its characteristic strap elements into menswear with Strap Pants and Strap Shorts.

Colour-wise, earthy natural tones collide with vibrant orange, while Swarovski crystals in deep blues and greens reflect the endless depth of the universe. The Lunar Landscape technique, inspired by the rough textures of moon rock, runs through the entire collection, making the pieces feel like artefacts salvaged from a distant galaxy. The absolute climax of the show? The Alien Vase features orthopedically inspired head and arm pieces, a spectacular homage to Marina’s time at Alexander McQueen and his legendary Plato’s Atlantis collection. It’s a look that fiercely points toward a future that still lies way beyond our current imagination.

Outer Space invites us to think way past the boundaries of the expected, reminding us that the most thrilling ideas always ignite right where our imagination ends.
