During the recent Berlin Fashion Week circuit, a significant new addition to the publishing landscape was officially unveiled. Titled KURAT, the contemporary fashion and culture publication is dedicated to showcasing emerging design talents and emerges directly from the collaborative framework of the event Berlin Curated. Founded and edited by Anke Schlöder and Joachim Baldauf, the annual magazine establishes itself under the core philosophy: to discover, to care, to curate.

Funded by the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises, KURAT operates on the belief that fashion is shaped precisely where new perspectives are given room to unfold. Rather than serving as a standard platform for visibility, the publication acts as an extension of Berlin Curated, facilitating a deeper dialogue between emerging designers, cultural exchange, and the processes that shape creative identity. It is designed to support young designers as they navigate their first steps into the industry, focusing on figures who are actively shifting the visual language, questioning structures, and redefining the communication of fashion.

The project is heavily informed by the involvement of Christiane Arp, the former Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Germany, whose work over the past two decades has consistently focused on promoting local talent and elevating German design globally. Since she departed from Vogue in 2021, Arp has continued to shape the industry discourse through the Fashion Council Germany, an organisation she co-founded to foster emerging design and sustainable innovation. For this inaugural iteration of Berlin Curated, 13 upcoming fashion designers were selected to be showcased within the pages of the issue and presented in a dedicated runway show during Berlin Fashion Week, serving as a structural bridge between established industry excellence and the next generation of designers.
Beyond focusing strictly on new talent, KURAT provides insights from across the creative industries, offering fresh angles and relevant conversations tailored to students, fashion enthusiasts, and academic institutions. Published annually alongside each Berlin Curated edition, the printed magazine will be supported by three newsletters released throughout the year to maintain an active, ongoing discourse. The publication explicitly invites participation over passive observation, encouraging readers, students, and professionals to share perspectives and engage directly in the collective exchange that moves fashion forward.
